What is PD (Power Delivery) Charging?

92013 Views

The advent of the USB type C port has revolutionized the field of charging smart devices in an extraordinary way.

Major manufacturers of smartphones and laptops are increasingly integrating USB-C connectors, thus allowing the sharing of the charger among different devices. This feature allows you to charge the phone using the laptop charger and vice versa, creating greater versatility in the use of devices.

The PD charging technology, an acronym for "Power Delivery" or "PD Charger", represents an advanced protocol for fast charging, characterized by significant functionality and universality.

Breaking the

The Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology has marked a progress in the field of fast charging for mobile devices, supporting 18W of power via a conventional USB "V-BUS" port.

However, this technology is not compliant with USB-IF safety standards and is limited to devices with Qualcomm chips, thereby excluding laptops.

On the contrary, PD charging has increased the power up to 100W, complying with USB safety standards and opening new charging possibilities for larger devices, such as laptops, drones and smart appliances, safely and quickly.

Power without

The peculiarity of PD charging lies in the fact that it does not require proprietary devices to function. This means that it is possible to connect a backup HDD directly to the laptop, usually powered externally, obtaining a faster data transfer.

Furthermore, it allows to quickly charge a smartphone while downloading data without interferences. Power Delivery also optimizes power management on different peripherals, allowing each device to absorb only the power necessary for charging, avoiding energy waste when it is not in use.

Power Delivery has no

One of the most intriguing aspects of Power Delivery is the flexibility in the direction of the power.

It is possible to use a portable power bank to charge the laptop, while at the same time the laptop charges the phone.

Furthermore, it is possible to recharge Bluetooth earphones directly from the phone, offering an unprecedented flexibility in power management.

Powerful but

Despite the high power, PD charging technology has solved the fear of damaging devices. In addition to USB-IF compliance, charging offers an intelligent system to regulate power through optional hub communication with the PC.

This allows you to control and adapt the power level flexibly. PD technology provides a safe and smart solution, eliminating concerns about incidents like overheated cell phones or exploded batteries.

With low power compatibility, it is even possible to charge devices like earphones using the laptop's power supply, demonstrating the versatility and advanced control that PD charging offers in the ecosystem of modern devices.
