What is a laboratory power supply?

The benchtop power supply, more commonly known as a laboratory power supply, is an alternating current-direct current power supply capable of delivering an adjustable, stable, and disturbance-free voltage to not alter measurements. Thanks to the knob on the panel, it is possible to precisely adjust the voltage, with a range that goes from zero to tens of Volts. Some power supplies are equipped with a second knob, which allows adjusting the maximum current value to be supplied, so that in case of a short circuit, the power supply can stop and prevent damage to the connected load. Thanks to the displays they are equipped with, it is possible to read the voltage and current intensity values accurately and clearly. The laboratory power supply is also equipped with overvoltage protection systems (OVP) and overcurrent protection (OCP), ensuring safe operation even for continuous or particularly intensive uses.
